T Stands For Thanksgiving!

" Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms." Psalms 95:2

We are celebrating Thanksgiving in the states this Thursday. It is a national holiday here, with most offices and schools closed. Although colonists celebrated a harvest in 1621 with native Americans, it was later that the Continental Congress established an official day of giving thanks on September 28, 1789 to honor that first Thanksgiving celebration.  Then President George Washington issued a proclamation naming Thursday November 26, 1789 as a "Day of Publick Thanksgivin"  .  Then during the Civil War, President proclaimed that Thanksgiving be a national holiday celebrated every November.  I got this info off the web.  I know Canada had their Thanksgiving last month, and I am not sure who else celebrates a holiday like this, but be sure and let me know if your country does this.

I am thankful this year that we have some of our family here; our son.  This is the first time since 2013 that we have had any family with us.  My mother was still with us and she would come for our dinner and to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with us.  It was always a tradition to watch that as we prepared the feast, and then to watch games after!

I missed TSFT last week for two reasons.  One, I was finishing up our Falliday Fest Challenges at SplitcoastStampers, and I was cleaning house for company.  I should clean more often so it wouldn't be such a chore.  One big project is getting my craft room presentable! LOL

Here is a photo of some of the 19 projects I did for Falliday Fest.

Here is a close up of a Treasure Journal I made.  We were to make the cover from a greeting card.  My cover was from an Easter card that my secret sister sent me last year.

I added a fabric flower and ribbon to the edge.

I made a pocket on one page with part of another greeting card.

Above is a page out of a child's poetry book and some scrapbook paper.

I used an envelope made of handmade paper for one on the pages, so automatic pocket.

This is backside of music paper; I used leger paper here to make a pocket.  The yellow is back side of some scrap paper.  I added a doily and decorated with stickers.

I paper clipped this shut, but underneath, I made a stack a note. the right side is poems out of another book that I bought at a garage sale several years ago.

Showing panel opened with stack a note

This shows next to last page of my Treasure Journal.  The left is back of the poetry page.  Also, the other side of the envelope.  And, I included the signed page from the greeting card from my secret sis.

The last page of my journal.  I added a note page that someone sent in a card, and I made a back pocket on the back page of my journal, for a journaling card.

on left is a pockt with a tag, on the right I made a whole page pocket with the leger paper and music paper on the back.  Journal page inside.

and last my tea for TSFT with back of center page of my journal.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my 5x7 mini treasure journal with Greeting card cover.  26 pages counting the front and back cover.
I have had problems with Blogger today, so hope this publishes correctly.  I also, hope all in the U.S. have a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Thanks to all of you for stopping by for TSFT.  Be sure and stop over at Elizabeth & Bleubeard's at Altered Book Lover to check out the other participants in this tea party.

  2. Hi Sharon when I was a kid at home it was a big deal to watch the parade on tv. we always went to my farm Grandparents good memories.
before retirement I would host a big dinner that friends that didn't have family (like us) would gather-with everyone bringing a dish-loads of fun. after retirement our deer camp the weekend before was like our Thanksgiving.
I loved seeing what you have been making and loved seeing your journal
    Happy T and Thanksgiving Kathy

  3. Loved your little journal. A great way to repurpose those sentimental cards that we don't want to through away.

  4. You must be thrilled your son is coming. Is he the one who lives in Maine? And your book looks great. I like how you used a poetry book. Poetry can be your quotes. And it is such an artistic way to use words. I hope you have a wonderful T day, Thanksgiving and visit with your son Sharon. hugs-Erika

  5. I'm in lust. I want that tree that holds the cards. I LOVE it. Of course, I was also in awe of those cards, too. All so very different.

Your junk journal with gifted cards made me smile. I really like all the pockets you created in this one, too.

Like Kathy, when I lived in MO, I invited friends who lived alone, or had no one else, to join me for Thanksgiving dinner. It's definitely my favorite holiday.

I often forget about the Macy Parade. After you've been (in person) to several Rose Parades on New Year's Day as I have, and been able to see the floats up close at the park after the parade, a bunch of hot air balloons just seem blah!

So glad you have your son with you this year for this wonderful holiday. I'm really happy for you.

Thanks for sharing your cards, your journal, and your tea with is for T this Tuesday dear Sharon.

  8. Sharon, you were busy! Some fab looking creations and love that journal. I did one last year and loved it. Hoping you have a wonderful family get together - I think we all cherish each other a bit more these days. My kids are all going off on trips for Thanksgiving so we are hanging out at my SILs - she is a fab cook and just requested we bring a dessert so we aren't sad at all. Glad my kids are having adventures too. Many hugz and happy Thanksgiving.

  9. I think Thanksgiving is a good idea. We should have it too. (I think some traditions have harvest festivals) But then we give thanks to the Lord every day, for He is good. (All of the time)
Your journal is so pretty and it is a good way of using old greeting cards. The plumber's to-do list made me smile.
    Happy T-Day,
    Have a great week,
    Hugs

  12. In Germany we have Erntedankfest (harvest festival) at the end of harvest season - end of September, beginning of October. It is not a national holiday like Thanksgiving, but it's always on a Sunday and mainly celebrated in the churches. However, I do think giving thanks is something that shouldn't be reduced to one day in the year. I used to love Thanksgiving, but when they started to open shops on Thanksgiving it was really just the start to the crazy shopping season. It is so sad. I have read that due to the staff shortages some retailers are not opening on Thanksgiving this year and I think that's a move into the right direction. Thanksgiving should remain a holiday for everybody.
